The Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin has got himself in hot water. The guy famous for throwing himself with glee into dangerous situations with wild animals apparently went too far when he brought his one-month-old son along. He was shown on Australian TV feeding a 12-foot croc in his zoo while holding his son Robert. Of course, there were the inevitable comparison to Michael Jackson dangling his son off a hotel balcony in Berlin.
Irwin says that his goal was to start making his son comfortable around wild animals from the earliest age and said that he would never have brought his son in with him if he thought there was any danger. I do think it’s a bit of a different circumstance, but it’s still kind of dumb. I think Irwin plays up the danger part of his stunts a bit, and as well as his wide-eyed innocence. He obviously knows what he’s doing. But people need to be outraged at stuff, they need to complain about what other people are doing, so TV viewers called child services and they sent people down to the zoo and even the Queensland Acting Premier got on the phone and Steve says he’s sorry and won’t do it again.
