The former bishop of Springfield, Mass., said the personnel records of priests were destroyed when one of his predecessor retired at a time when Dupre was diocesan chancellor. Lawyers for an alleged victim had requested the records of priests he says abused him or conspired to cover up the abuse. This information came to light when the local DA requested the file as he investigates whether he has just cause to charge Bishop Thomas Dupre. Dupre himself has been accused of misconduct.
Whatever is going on here, you have to ask yourself what possible reason could there be for a bishop to order the personnel files of his priests to be destroyed as he retired unless there was something incriminating for him or them in the files. The whole thing just smells of both bad acts and stupidity.
