Steeped in Boston Catholic History

Steeped in Boston Catholic History

I’m working in the archdiocesan archives today, researching parish histories for a 2010 calendar. I find it fascinating to learn all these histories and inspiring to see the faith of our forebears.

Now I know why there is a Shrine to St. Rita in Lowell, for instance. It used to be St. Columba parish, but in 1924 a crippled boy was healed during a public novena to St. Rita and it became a place of pilgrimage.

I’ve also stumbled on a history of my own parish, St. Joseph in Holbrook. Not only do I learn about my parish. Bit also my hometown.

 I love this stuff.

  • Hi Dom.. I wish I was in those archives with you.  How I would absolutely just LOVE to look at what is in the archives for Ste Anne Parish in Lawrence where I grew up – a parish founded by some of my great grandparents etc…  enjoy!  Lucky you!
