The Jesuit president of St. Louis University is up for re-election to the board of a hospital chain that performs abortions. Hmm, think there might be something problematic about that? Independent agencies have confirmed that Tenet Healthcare Corporation performs abortions in at least some of its 114 hospitals and when pro-life groups have informed Father Lawrence Biondi, SJ, of that fact and asked him to resign from the board in protest, he has refused to even respond to them. Hey, if he thinks staying on the board gives him a voice to effect change, then I’d be fine with that, but he should at least come out and say that and be public about trying to get Tenet to change. Instead, his silences implies approval and complicity. He needs to take some action.
