After 45 hours of snowfall, the final total of snow here in Salem is 36 inches! Wow! For all you non-New Englanders, that’s a bit unusual. I can’t remember when we had the last snowstorm of that magnitude. And we’ve never had that much snow in one storm in December. Just last Thursday, they were still predicting 4-6 inches. Oops!
I hope you all got a chance to watch the Miami-New England football game. It was one of the funniest moments in sports. After the Patriots’ Tedy Bruschi intercepted a Jay Fiedler pass and ran it in for a touchdown, the fans in the seats started throwing the snow all around them into the air. It looked like fireworks with 45,000 people all throwing snow around, or like a reverse snowstorm. What is it about the Patriots playing in the snow?
After the way some people were gloating after the Patriots lost to the Bills in the first week of the season, it’s good to realize that a season is not won or lost in the first game. Bill Belicheck really is a genius. Let Buffalo continue to pick up the leftovers and leavings of the Patriots; it’s done them so much good.
Technically, Gillette Field wasn’t a frozen tundra. There are actually heating coils under the field that heat it to 55 degrees. Technology may be wonderful, but playing in the snow does lose a bit of the cachet it once had. At least they don’t play in a dome. What other sport would play the game in conditions like yesterday?
What did Teddy “Ice Cold” Bruschi have to say about what the fans did:
“That was incredible, wasn’t it?” Bruschi said. “Throwing the snow up in the air with the music. It got me into the holiday spirit.”
NOTE OF INTEREST TO FISHHEADS:
Miami’s offense gave up more points than their defense!! Go Pats, GO D!!!
