The Dallas Morning News has an editorial today that looks at the deal struck between Bishop Thomas O’Brien of Phoenix and the County Attorney. It says that while an attempt to deal with the system that allowed serial abusers to continue to hurt others is laudable, the agreement has some serious First Amendment problems. Their suggestion to the County Attorney: forget the agreement and just indict the bishop. That way the freedom of worship is preserved and justice is done.
