Robertson endorses Arnold

According to Matt Drudge Pat Robertson has endorsed Arnold Schwarzenegger. Well, it was on MSNBC too, I guess, but then nobody would have seen it.

Anyway, here’s the founder of the Christian Coalition, this supposedly fundamentalist conservative Republican group, endorsing a pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage Republican for governor of California.

It seems Robertson’s pragmatic politics outweighs his Christian principles.

So what are they gonna do?  I mean you gonna have Bustamante who is sort of the Governor Gray Davis lite?  They don’t want anymore Davis, so who else you gonna put in? I think you don’t have anybody else that’s coming up on the radar so the other alternative is just stay home.

Well, there are conservative Republicans in the race, most notably Sen. McClintock.

This isn’t the first time Robertson tossed principle aside for politics. In 2001, he tried to justify China’s forced abortion program by saying, “Well, you know, I don’t agree with it. But at the same time, they’ve got 1.2 billion people, and they don’t know what to do. If every family over there was allowed to have three or four children, the population would be completely unsustainable. ... So, I think that right now they’re doing what they have to do. I don’t agree with the forced abortion, but I don’t think the United States needs to interfere with what they’re doing internally in this regard.” Wait, is abortion murder or not?

It reminds me of the time I saw a taping of the 700 Club (I’ve mentioned this before) and Robertson was asked by a caller whether we should worship the Holy Spirit. He said, “Only in so far as it is God.” And in so far as it is not God, we shouldn’t? The Holy Spirit is God! Worship him!

  • That’s what I meant. I was there for the taping of the show. Otherwise, I would have said I saw a broadcast or showing of it.

But it’s all good in the end. I’m not going senile yet.
