Proud2BCatholic.com Music Festival

Once again it’s time for the Proud2BCatholic music festival. This is the sixth annual event and for the second year in a row it will be held at the Marist House in Framingham, Massachusetts, on August 12.

Performers include American Idol contestant Ayla Brown, Fr. Stan Fortuna (also Mass Celebrant), Bob Rice, Sean Forrest, Sarah Bauer, Righteous B, Bernie Choiniere, Martin Doman, Paul Savageau, Cross Pollen (with speaker Chris Faddis), Ryan Meyers, Zealous, John Flynn, Aaron Fouhey, Susan Bailey, R.O.C.K. Music Ministry, and John Polce.

Ray Flynn, former ambassador to the Vatican and former mayor of Boston, will be keynote speaker. You can buy tickets and get directions at the web site above.

P2BC is also spreading around North America with events in Pennsylvania, Louisiana, and Toronto, with more to come. This has come a long way since my brother-in-law Peter Campbell went to World Youth Day in Rome and first had his idea for a teen and family event to be held on Salem Common. My goal is someday it will be big enough to rent out Gillette Stadium. Oh yeah!

  • “My goal is someday it will be big enough to rent out Gillette Stadium.”

That’s a cool vision! I’ll be praying for that. smile

  • I was going to blog this “commercial” I received from a friend and reader but this seems a more appropriate place:

Last year I sponsored my niece Kelly [no relation!] for her Confirmation and wanted to take her to Colonge for WYD as a big present, but her folks understandably, were a little nervous about a 13-yr.-old travelling in Europe in this present day & age, even if it would have been with auntie Jean.  So as a “consolation prize” we went to the Proud 2 B Catholic event, on the recommendation of some friends who’d been there.

It was utterly fantastic—like a WYD or a Youth 2000 compressed into one full day. Although the music and talks are really youth-oriented, the
event itself is very age-inclusive—everything from babes in arms to senior citizens.  And is it “kosher”?  Well, with speakers and artists
from past World Youth Days, constant lines for Confession, Euchartic adoration all day long, a big presence of joyful looking religious in
full habits, a big concelebrated Holy Mass at day’s end (said by your new Cardinal), followed by more Eucharistic adoration, you tell me.  All
this is by way of saying I can recommend this event uunreservedly. I’m going again this year and bringing a carful of kids with me.  And my
girlfriend in Millis, MA, who is music minister of a parish in Millis is going again and bringing a whole group from her parish, so impressed was she with last year’s.

  • This will be our fourth year.  We wouldn’t miss it for the world!  My kids, from 6 -20 just love it.  There are games, talks, good food, great things to buy, and adoration is like no adoration you’ve ever experienced.  After dark, Martin Doman doing the music, a light shining on Our Lord from behind, illuminating the Bread of Life for all to worship.  Wow!!!  For Mass, always a “celebrity” priest or bishop, with a timely message to us all!

Oh, and don’t forget the KofC honor guard leading in the celebrant for Holy Mass.
