Anna Louise Flather, 81, the mother of my good friend Andy Flathers, died this morning. Andy’s father Charles is also not well and is undergoing treatment for cancer. Please pray for his whole family. Some of you might know Andy from his work as emcee at the Proud2BCatholic concerts.

Arthur Johnson, 82, a member of my parish, Immaculate Conception in Salem. Arthur was one of the kindest, friendliest, most sincere people you’d ever meet. He always had a kind word, a smile, and a handshake and if he couldn’t always reliably remember your name he consistently tried to mention something nice about you or someone in your family that he’d met. He was also a World War II vet and I once had the privilege of spending some time talking to him about his service to our nation. He was a sailor in the Pacific on the same ship as President Gerald Ford. Arthur and his wife Eleanor are cornerstones of our parish and I’d often see them at daily Mass. He will be missed.
