Pray for a priest

Pray for a priest

Say a prayer for Fr. James Pilsner of New York who killed himself while under treatment for depression.

A Staten Island priest under care for depression hanged himself yesterday, police said.

The Rev. James Pilsner, a priest at Our Lady Queen of Peace in New Dorp, was found by another priest at the Third St. rectory.

Pilsner, a 2001 graduate of St. Joseph’s Seminary, had been under care for depression, a police source said.

Fr. Pilsner was profiled in Catholic New York back in 2001 when he was ordained.

  • I suffered from depression for most of my teen years and adult life. Everyday single day you live with depression is like going to war. Lord have mercy. God, grant him pardon and peace.

  • Father Jim Pilsner was a friend of mine and a member of the Board of Directors of the Confraternity of Catholic Clergy.  He was a good man and a very good priest.  He loved God, the Church, the Blessed Mother, the Pope and his priesthood very much.  This was NOT a crisis of faith as he never lost nor weakened in his beliefs.  The heinous evil of clinical depression robs the intellect and will of sufficient power to control and conquer this affliction.  Medication, treatment and therapy sometime help but other times it is not diagnosed in time or to the proper extent.  Father Jim was tormented internally as much as anyone with a physical disease like cancer or as much as the Cure of Ars was by supernatural attacks from the devil.  Father Jim did not have a weak will nor a weak faith.  He had a heavy cross which many of us did not realize was so lethal.  Pray for the repose of his soul.  TU ES SACERDOS IN AETERNUM
