Pope explicates his prayer in the mosque

In order to ignite the debate one more time, I will refer to Pope Benedict’s explanation of his prayer in Instanbul’s Blue Mosque during his trip last week, a silent prayer that riled up some folks who thought he was lending legitimacy to Islam. In his weekly general audience, the Holy Father said he simply prayed to the one God, Lord of heaven and earth, merciful Father, for the unity of all mankind.

The prayer in Istanbul’s Blue Mosque was “not initially planned but it turned out to be very meaningful”. It was a prayer to the “one Lord of heaven and earth, merciful father of all mankind”. ... The Pope “thanked divine Providence for this” and said: “May all believers identify themselves with the one God and bear witness to true brotherhood.”

I’m sure that mollifies exactly no one who was upset before, but there it is. Let all who have ears to hear, listen to it.
