Pilgrimage death toll

Pilgrimage death toll

Fourteen people were killed in a Muslim hajj ritual yesterday. In 2001, 35 people were killed in the same ritual. In 1998, 119 died. It seems that every year people die during the ritual which includes throwing stones at a pillar that represents the devil.

I’ve heard of Catholics dying on pilgrimage, usually in some kind of transportation accident, but I’ve never heard of Catholic pilgrims dying on a regular basis during a religious ritual. And if they did, you can be sure the Church would make changes to prevent it. Just another of the ways that Islam and Christianity are different.
