PETA is full of bull

I hesitate to even mention this because PETA pulls these stunts in order to cause outrage and garner attention for themselves. The more outrageous, the more coverage they get and we just aid and abet them by our outrage. If we just ignored them, they’d go away. They’re like that annoying little brother who’s always trying to get a rise out of you.

Anyway, PETA is bringing a giant cow dressed up like the pope carrying a crosier with a crucified cow on it to a protest in front of Holy Cross Cathedral today. It was supposed to be there on Palm Sunday, but it was delayed by weather (and an act of God?); the protesters did manage to show up anyway. Their message is that while we contemplate the Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of Kings, Lamb of God who takes away our sins, we’re supposed to remember that the more important suffering is that of animals killed for meat.

Of course, the rest of you aren’t off the hook. The Cow Pope will be traveling to New York, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and Providence in the future. Oh joy.

Just for that I’m going to have an extra helping of ham on Easter Sunday. Take that PETA.
