The Smoking Gun web site has stumbled on a set of obituary web pages mocked up by CNN for the future deaths of several famous people. It’s a common practice for news organizations to prepare galleys of obituaries in advance so you’re not scrambling at the last minute to put something together. And sometimes those galleys leak out accidentally.
Among the ones CNN posted were obits for Dick Cheney, Ronald Reagan, and Pope John Paul. The bottom half of the pages, by the way, are apparently copied from the obituary of England’s Queen Mum last year. As far as I know, the Pope was never a “queen consort.”
