Oh the economic boon to Boston

When Massachusetts Democrats were trying to sell the idea of the Democratic National Convention in Boston this year to residents, they said it would bring a $150 million economic boost to the state (funny how Dems become capitalists at times like this), never mind the fact that you would try to hold this event in a congested city still reeling from the largest urban construction project in history, a city that could charitably be called cramped. Now we get the bad news. Not only is the Secret Service going to close the major commuter rail hub for the northern suburbs, but they’re going to shut down the major traffic artery in and out of the city. The commuter trains from the north will stop at suburban stations where the 24,000 daily riders will have to transfer to buses. And our brand new Interstate-93/Big Dig will also stand empty, forcing drivers on surrounding city streets. Mmmm, gridlock.
