New bishops for US

Three major episcopal appointments were made today: Bishop Thomas Daily of Brooklyn has been replaced by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio (formerly of Camden, NJ); Bishop-elect Peter Jugis has been appointed to Charlotte, North Carolina; and Bishop Sam Jacobs (formerly of Alexandria, LA) has been named to Houma-Thibodaux, LA.

Charlotte and Houma-Thibodaux were vacant for a while so it’s good to get those vacancies filled. And Bishop Daily has long been under fire for his actions as an auxiliary in Boston and later in Brooklyn as part of the Scandal. He had become a lightning rod for dissent and protest and moving him out will help the diocese move on.
