Need to pee in Norway? “Urine” luck… if you’re a girl

Need to pee in Norway? “Urine” luck… if you’re a girl

I don’t know which is more bizarre: the headline or the story. The headline is “Urination will go to committee.” The story appears in a Norwegian newspaper, Aftenposten, and it involves a proposed school regulation that would—get this—require boys to pee sitting down.

Yes, you read that right. Apparently, the schools in Norway have unisex bathrooms, which is bad enough, and no urinals. Thus the girls are now complaining that the boys have poor aim and are leaving the seats wet. While I’m not ready to declare a man’s right to pee standing up as God given, I am somewhat in agreement with this politician:

“When boys are not allowed to pee in the natural way, the way boys have done for generations, it is meddling with God’s work,” Kleppe told the newspaper.

“It is a human right not to have to sit down like a girl,” Kleppe said.

I guess it hasn’t occurred to anyone to provide separate bathrooms and urinals for the boys. Oh no, that would be gender discrimination and we all know that boys and girls are exactly alike in all ways. Except boys can stand to pee, of course.

  • Oh sweet lord, don’t people understand that separate bathrooms in public places, and urinals in particular, are two advancements from western society?

Apparently not. European women must think urinals were a big joke thought up by Marcel Duchamp or something. More wheel re-creation called for.

  • I find this thread truly amazing in two very different ways.

    (1) I am appalled by the ludicrous situation in Norway, beginning with the idiocy of unisex restrooms.

    (2) I am disgusted by the language being used by the Catholic blogster and some of his commenters.  I have been reading this blog daily for many months, and I do not come here to see people using vulgar words (like “p**”) when mature adults know that they should be using standard English (like “uninate”).  Please stop disgusting me.  Thank you.

  • Could you be anymore uptight? Pee is not a vulgar word. Little kids use the word “pee”.

It could be worse: I might have used “wee”. And just be glad I didn’t write “tinkle”. That surely would have made some old ladies faint at their keyboards.

Now “uninate”, that’s vulgar. ‘Course, it’s not a word.

And as I tell everyone who complains about something they don’t like on the blog: Too bad. If you don’t like it, don’t read it. You certainly don’t have to comment on it.
