My new blog title … maybe

Part of the problem with having been one of the first Catholic bloggers is that I never got on the wave of coming up with a clever name for my blog. Come one, Bettnet.com? How pedestrian! No, in order to be a cool Catholic blog these days you need a Latin name, the longer the better.

I’ve been wracking my brain for something suitably erudite and impressive and then it hit me: “Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum viditur.”

Pretty cool, huh? I think it’s perfect. It screams profundity and insightfulness. It makes me seen erudite. Wait does it mean?

Translated…

  • Yup, that rolls off the tongue.

I was very impressed that the boy I had a crush on in ninth grade could say “It’s all Greek to me” in Latin…

  • too hard to spell – keep it simple, Dom. Reminds me of a joke a deacon friend used to tell, that he knew a little Greek when he went to seminary – but he worked in the kitchen.

  • That’s the tag line Steve Wozniak used to use on his emails.

By the way did you hear Steve Wozniak’s relativistic take on the China Google on TWIT?

  • This was the title of a site that folded.  It was a literary site that went out in 2002.  I think the blog title is available and it is much more appropriate:

    “Veritas Odit Moras”
    Truth hates delay
    —Seneca

  • It reminds me of the rumored Catholic dissenter who claimed you could pass off anything to those ignorant conservative lay people if you dressed it up with a Latin name.

  • Dom,

Gratias ago tibi, ridiculo perfructus sum (orthographiam tuam neglego).

    fac ut valeas,
    Scott

  • Domenico, I always liked Bettnet.  Easy to remember, easy to get to.

But if we have to talk about liturgical abuse and Boston crises, how about “Illegitimus non carborundum est”?

  • What could be better than Bettnet?

    “sagẽna melior” = Better Net

    (or something like that…)

  • Perhaps some anagrams of Domenico Bettinelli:

    BENEDICT LIME LOTION
    IMBECILE NOODLE TINT
    ENTITLED BIONIC MOLE
    BELITTLED ONION MICE
    OBEDIENT LICIT MELON
    ENTOMBED ILLICIT ONE
    BLIND MIOCENE TOILET
    ONETIME ELICIT BLOND
