Think birth control is safe? If it were any other kind of drug, it would be pulled off the market, but because it is contraception, politics keep it for sale. According to the site “No Room for Contraception”:
“According to Johnson & Johnson’s third quarter SEC filing for 2006, there are over ‘1,000 claimants who have filed lawsuits or have made claims regarding injuries allegedly due to Ortho Evra.’”
“Serious health problems have been associated with Ortho Evra including fatal and non-fatal blood clots, strokes, heart attacks, and death. From April 2002 to December 2004, over 27,974 ‘adverse effects’ were reported by users of Ortho Evra. Many of the complaints are serious, and the patch is alleged to be responsible for over 23 deaths, including the death of 14 year old Alycia Brown.”
“It’s interesting to find out that the FDA, ‘big pharma’, and medical professionals consider non-fatal and fatal blood clots as ‘acceptable risks’ of oral contraception…. One has to wonder how many women have been told by their OB/GYNs that their potential death from a fatal blood clot is an ‘acceptable risk’ of using hormone based contraceptives?” said Ruben Obregon, President of the No Room for Contraception Campaign.
Considering how quickly doctors will push contraceptives on any and every woman who comes into their offices, even if they are just claiming it’s for regulation of the period, this is scary news indeed. I wonder if I could find out how many millions or billions of dollars are spent on oral contraceptives each year.

FWIW, I have attempted to educate both my son and my daughter about the risks of ABC. Approximately 35 yrs. ago, when I was a teenager, I was put on “the Pill” in an effort to control/correct some medical problems. Not only was surgery still ultimately required, but I developed a plethora of other medical problems which can reasonably be associated with my years on artificial hormones. The end result was that we nearly missed out on our two children, and that I live with chronic pain daily.
