Make-work rather than real work on the Scandal

Make-work rather than real work on the Scandal

Apparently the US bishops’ conference has decided that the way to deal with the Scandal is to conduct psychological studies and hold audits rather than confront what everybody knows is the reality: most bishops turned a blind eye toward abuse and homosexual perversion among their priests and that the vast majority of abuse was homosexual sex by priests with adolescent boys. But it’s easier to order studies and audits than to call your brother bishops (and yourself) to account.

  • Evidently the Bishops have taken a few pages from Government:  when in denial, be sure to spend a few hundred $K on ‘studies’ and ‘audits.’

Add another like sum for ‘commissions’ and ‘feedback,’ and wait 15 years, hoping that the problem and the complainers will simply go away.

  • It’s time to dequeerize the Church.  If such is not done, our boys will not be safe with priests. – Ninenot is right.  The bishops are refusing to address the underlying issue – the homosexualization of the priesthood – and are using studies and commissions to hide from it.

  • Ninenot is on the right track. In the Pentagon, the tactic of issuing more reports was called the squid strategy, i.e. “when something threatens, cover it with ink”. The bishops should meditate on a message from Luke (Cool Hand Luke, not the gospel): “What we have here is a failure to communicate”. If the bishops had communicated to their priests that pedophilia was unacceptble, or to the public that the were serious about exercising leadershi and fixing the problem, they would not be hiding behind more reports.
