While the world’s Muslim political and religious leaders launch attack after attack on Pope Benedict, only one Western leader has publicly defended him: Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel.

In Germany, the Pope’s homeland, Chancellor Merkel said the Pope had spoken in favour of dialogue between religions, “which is something I also support and consider urgent and necessary.

“What Benedict XVI emphasised was a decisive and uncompromising renunciation of all forms of violence in the name of religion,” she said.

Where are the rest of them? Afraid to open their mouths lest they become targets of violence too? Has terrorism succeeded so well?

It makes me wonder if we really are winning the War on Terror.

  • Bishop Boles did ask us to pray for the Pope during Mass yesterday (it was the formal instalation of Monsignor Fay as pastor of St. Columbkille’s), but that was about it—AFAIK, there’s no mention of what has been happening on the Achdiocese website.

    I’m disappointed, but not suprised.
