Local Catholics joining L.A. vigil in support of gay priests

Just wanted to remind you all that Voice of the Faithful claims that it doesn’t take sides in controversial issues concerning Catholic doctrine. Really? Then what do they call this? “Local Catholics joining L.A. vigil in support of gay priests.” (Link requires paid registration.)

Reform group questions Vatican policies on homosexuality. About six members of Santa Barbara’s chapter of Voice of the Faithful, a Catholic reform group, will travel to Los Angeles today to join a vigil in support of priests who may be threatened by the Vatican’s new policy prohibiting homosexuals in the seminary.

Maybe it’s not a controversial issue? Or maybe they don’t mean what they said and what they really meant was that they will pretend not to take sides so they can dissent from Church teaching while claiming to be faithful, fooling well-meaning people who join the group thinking they’re fighting against the causes of the Scandal.

  • Or maybe…

The assumption may be that since a homosexual orientation itself is not sinful, and it is theoretically possible for one so inclined to remain celibate, that challenging the Holy See on this issue does not attack any teaching itself, but a prudential judgement on a disciplinary matter. Perhaps you could clarify this, my good man, before I post this link for those who might benefit the most from it.

    If you get my drift.
