Late sleepers are tired of being discriminated against. And science has their back.

Melanie is a night owl. I don't know what I am since I stay up late and get up early. I think I might be a night owl too, given my druthers. It is true that as a society we've decided that early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise and that people who sleep in are lazy. Never mind the night owl put in an extra three or four hours the night before. Is it because of the assumption that work is done during the day and leisure is at night?

Nevertheless, while I agree with the idea that we shouldn't assume late sleepers are lazy, I stop short of joining the perpetually aggrieved who see every differentiation as an excuse to erect a new protected class. Sometimes you get dealt a bad hand and you live with it.
