Good news and not-so-good news

Good news and not-so-good news

I have some good news and news that may not be so good, depending on how you look at it.

The good news is that I finally have a full-time job, as I’ve hinted on the blog recently. While I’ve made do over the past year with freelance and consulting projects, I prefer the security of a regular job. I’m not quite ready to tell you what the job is yet—I’m waiting for the final t’s to be crossed—but it keeps us in the local area and doing the Lord’s work, I think.

So that’s the good news: The not-so-good news is the effect it will have on the blog. I will now have a daily commute and eight hours in the office and then I will want to spend time with Melanie and Isabella when I get home. That doesn’t leave much time for other activity, at least not at first.

I’m going to want to dedicate myself to this new job and put my nose to the grindstone, showing them what I’m capable of. And so you probably know what’s coming: I’m not going to be blogging much for a while.

I’m not going to give up on the blog completely, but I won’t be posting eight or 10 posts analyzing the day’s news every day. Instead, you can expect something along the lines of more personal reflections about fatherhood, living the faith, books/movies/shows, and so on. Those take less time and effort and so when I have the time to write, I’ll spend it with those.

And especially at first, those times will be few and far between. Perhaps just a few posts a week, if that. I do hope you’ll continue to check in regularly. If you haven’t set the blog up as an RSS feed, please do so and you’ll always know when a new post is up.

My new job starts a week from Monday, on June 18, but this coming week we’re moving to our new apartment in Peabody, so the slowdown probably starts this week.

You’ll have noticed a new feature on the site, a daily listing of headlines and links picked up in my travels around the web. They’re not the same as regular postings, but maybe they’ll keep you somewhat informed (sometimes with my brief comments).

I thank you all for your prayers and understanding and I hope that it won’t be too long before I can get into the swing of things and can get back to, if not my old production, at least something more substantive.

And stay tuned this week for my new job announcement. I think many of you will be surprised, hopefully pleasantly.
