Don’t leave home without it, and I don’t mean your American Express

An official of a town in Western Colombia, called Tulua, wants to make it mandatory by law for everyone over the age of 14 to carry a condom at all times. You never know when the urge will strike I guess.

This is the kind of idiotic thinking we get from the left-wing. Their view is that human beings are just animals, ruled by their passions, who cannot control themselves in any case. This is one of the arguments against priestly celibacy. “What man can resist the urge to have sex?”

Apart from the affront against human nature and religious belief, it’s also ridiculous on a practical level. Speaking of human nature, those who are likely to have sex without a condom won’t remember to put one on even if it is in their wallet. I remember a few years ago, a study of condom use found that among the leaders of AIDS education and prevention groups—in other words, people who are most conscious of AIDS—that even these people failed to use condoms when having sex outside of marriage. (Given the nature of these groups, it was a fairly large sample size.)

It’s just a silly idea all around

  • I have a feeling this might backfire on the town.  This is on of the warnings on condoms:

“Keep condoms in their packs in a cool, dry place (not in a wallet!). Avoid exposing condoms to direct sunlight or storage for prolonged periods at temperatures above 100° F. Also, always check the dating on the packaging to make sure the condom is still in date.”

Just thought I would add that.

  • Aren’t many areas of Columbia in near-anarchy because of drug feuds?  Odd that this is the news that gets coverage.

Also, note that in the article “pregnancies to women under 18” has supplanted “pregnancies to unmarried women” as a major cause for concern.

  • To paraphrase “Firefly”
    “He understands. . . he doesn’t comprehend.”

I also find it strange that the places people always want to send condoms usually have temperatures well above the recommended storage temperature.
