Cloning, stem cell research in Massachusetts

I just received the following today from the Massachusetts Catholic Conference. You know what to do:

Taking everyone by surprise, starting on Wednesday, November 5, the Massachusetts State Senate will begin debate on a comprehensive “economic stimulus” bill that includes language to authorize cloning and destructive research on human embryonic and fetal life.  The bill is on a fast track to be rammed through the Senate.  Besides its grave moral deficiencies, the language is poorly worded and confusing.  Senators Marian Walsh and Robert Hedlund have introduced amendments to delete the cloning/embryo research sections.  Debate could last the rest of the week.

Please call your state senator between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM during the week by phoning the Senate Clerk’s Office at 617-722-1276 or send an email any time (see all direct phone and email addresses at http://www.state.ma.us/legis/memmenus.htm ).  Give your home address and phone number to show that you are a constituent.  Leave the following simple message:

“Please tell Senator ___ that I am a constituent and I urge him/her to vote to remove sections 33, 34, and 35 of Senate Bill 2127 because they authorize cloning and destructive research on human embryos and don’t belong in an economic stimulus package.”

Tell your friends in Massachusetts to contact their state senators as well!
