Chicago Catholic Charities won’t place kids with gay couples

Cardinal Francis George of Chicago is taking the Vatican’s recent document on homosexual unions seriously. Catholic Charities of Chicago is reviewing its policies about adoption of children and placing them in foster homes. Now you would have hoped that the organization would have been abiding by Catholic teaching on this all along, but at least they’re acting now.

Catholic Charities says that it has not knowingly placed children with same-sex couples, but that it has also not turned away anyone because of sexual orientation. Do they have a “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy?

Cardinal Francis George says it’s time to take a look. “The document comes out with a teaching, but then you have to take a look at all the questions that it raises.”

The thing is that this document presented no new teaching, so why now?
