The Archdiocese of Boston closed its sale of the chancery property to Boston College for $99.4 million. (The points must have been killer.) With the college’s commitment to buy more property for another $8 million in 2 years, that’s a lot of money to get us through the hard times, most especially to pay of the $85 million settlement for Scandal lawsuits. (It also gives the lie to complaints that parish closings were just an attempt to raise money to pay off sex-abuse lawsuits. That may make good headlines, but it’s not true.)
