So my mom’s been moved to a rehab hospital where she’ll be for at least a week while she recovers from the knee replacement. We’ve been talking to the medical staff about getting her on a pain medication that will leave her less foggy. Right now she fades in and out while you’re talking to her.
I seriously can’t believe they were having her sign things in this condition. There’s no way those documents are legally binding. She was fading out in the middle of her signature!

It would be a very good idea to review all the documents she has signed in that condition, esp. those related to health-directive matters.
Best wishes for a quick rehab – make sure she does all that is required for p/t and she will be out sooner!

Sorry to hear about your mother’s knee replacement. I am a nurse on an ortho/urology floor. Knees are painful!! It can be hard with some people to control pain and not cause any mental status changes (as you’re finding out). Hopefully they will find the right mix of narcotic/non-narcotic meds that is right for your mum. Ice helps too!
