Lawyers and victims’ groups are compiling databases listing priests and brothers accused of abuse. How are they going to insure that everyone on the list really deserves to be on the list? Surely not every man accused of the crime is guilty. It’s one thing if the guy is found guilty by a secular or ecclesiastical court, but what if a guy has a single, unsubstantiated accusation against him? I can envision a case where a vengeful person makes a claim about a false incident 30 years ago that can neither be proven nor disproven. What then?
I think priests who think they are wrongly included in these databases have good cases for lawsuits.
