Bizarre, bizarre

The Boston Herald reports today a bizarre story involving cybersex, extortion, a wacky schismatic sect, and a priest apparently trying to hide his indiscretions.

A priest of the Archdiocese of Boston, serving a parish in the city of Lowell, has been alleged to have taken up a special collection to raise money to pay off an extortion attempt. Apparently, the priest was being blackmailed because of unspecified “sexual activity on the Internet.” The two alleged blackmailers include a guy who is a priest in the “Traditional Western Rite Archdiocese of America” which claims to be a church that “obeys the laws and rituals of the Catholic church as it existed before 1054, the year the church split into the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches.”

Who is this alleged blackmailer minister? He performs HIV/AIDS ministry for his church and, according to media reports, performs gay marriages.

The whole thing is too bizarre and I’m sure there’s more to the story that hasn’t come out yet. Stay tuned.
