The Archdiocese of Portland, Oregon, is making noises about declaring bankruptcy to deal with sex-abuse lawsuits. That specter has been raised before and in several cases, it caused plaintiffs to seek settlements rather than potentially lose everything. Maybe it’s just another legal tactic, but it’s a shame if it is.
