A stronger Guinness!

Those who know me, know that I don’t like weak, watery beer. No, I’m a Guinness man.  It’s like a liquid meal in a glass, strong and flavorful. But now I find out that there’s an even stronger kind of Guinness out there. In Nigeria, they brew and sell a stronger Guinness—7.5 percent alcohol compared to Ireland’s 4.5 percent. And now St. James’ Brewery in Dublin is making the Nigerian version in Ireland and calling it “Foreign Extra.”

Olla Iginla is another Nigerian pleased about Nigerian-style Guinness being brewed in Dublin. He said that when he moved here in 1997 and sipped his first local Guinness, “I was so disappointed. It was very watery.”

If he thought regular Guinness was watery, I can’t wait to taste the Nigerian version. Alas, no word on if it is coming to the US.

I guess I’ll have to make my long awaited trip to Ireland for my first taste.
