Sometimes I think I’m living in an alternate reality. Massachusetts’ courts have legalized same-sex marriage. The Church, obviously, opposes this as immoral and an undermining of God’s plan for the world. So what do they do next? Catholic institutions are now wondering whether to extend employee marriage benefits to same-sex couples. What?! It makes the whole battle against same-sex marriage seem like a pro-forma opposition in the first place, if we surrender so readily on this point.
