Pope Benedict votes for US president

The liberal elites are worrying that Pope Benedict is trying to undermine our democracy by telling Catholic politicians they must not support abortion.

On Friday’s “Good Morning America,” ABC anchors and reporters worried that the Pope may be “interfering in American politics.” Correspondent Dan Harris discussed the Pope’s comments about pro-choice Catholic politicians and an ABC graphic offered this leading question, “Is Pope Pushing his Pulpit?”

Interviewing a conservative pollster, Harris takes the shrillness to 11: “So even though he doesn’t vote here, he doesn’t live here, wasn’t elected here, he can impact the race here?”

Yes, Dan, the Pope is a German living in Rome and can influence the American electoral process. Fancy that. And a Saudi Arabian hiding in a cave in Afghanistan/Pakistan affected American electoral politics to an ever greater degree.

Of course, for liberals like Harris the influence of the Pope is as malevolent as that of bin Laden.

What’s really ridiculous is the notion that the Pope was actually intending to affect the US presidential election. Like so many other Americans, they think that everything in the world revolves around the internal affairs of the United States. It does not. In fact, the context of the Pope’s remarks was Mexican politics.

Diane Sawyer: “Next up in the news now, politics and the Pope. Is the Pope trying to influence American politics? Change the race for the White House? Did his aides edit his transcript? He’s putting some presidential contenders in a tough spot this morning.

No, Diane, not even close. But you’re welcome to the convenient cudgel with which to beat the Church on national TV yet again. Thank you, may I have another?

  • “Of course, for liberals like Harris the influence of the Pope is as malevolent as that of bin Laden.”

You may be too generous with that comment, Dom.  There are many liberals who feel that bin Laden is not malevolent, but misunderstood; that al Queda terrorists are really freedom fighters; and that the greatest threat to their version of American democracy comes from orthodox Catholics, Christians and Jews.  The last group is too small to make an impact.

The Great Coiffured Ones on television are especially susceptible to bouts of raging paranoia about the threat from the Vatican and its counterparts among the Christian evangelicals who dwell out there somewhere in the vast red state prairies.

  • What American politicians are demanding is a 21st Century “Divine Right of Kings.” They are the people’s representative in a democracy and as with
medieval kings the people’s bidding must be obeyed by their representatives. But what they leave out is that true Catholics argued with the medieval kings, opposed them, and even resigned rather than sell out their Faith and their consciences. St. Thomas More went to his death rather than do the king’s evil bidding. What is amazing is how so many Catholic politicians can try to make a case that their cowardice in the face of the king being wrong is somehow commendable and is a justification for their stands.
But with the MSM being fanatically pro-abortion these Catholic politicians know the whistle won’t be blown on their evil hypocrisy and their cowardly inconsistencies as their ambition for power rips apart their consciences.

  • What’s even more stupid is how these people think it’s about the politics, when it’s really about the Eucharist.  After Clinton’s notorious reception of communion in Africa, my Presbyterian cardiologist asked me what I thought.  I said, “He shouldn’t be receiving Communion if he was Catholic.”

He said, “The way I see it, it’s just rude.  Every group has ‘their thing’ that identifies them as a group, and you don’t just go in as a stranger and do it.  Like, you don’t go to the Masons and do the secret handshake or whatever.”

  • It’s really sad when the governing of a great nation comes down to a pissing match over abortion, which is really only murder anyway.

The whole news media whine is wrong on so many levels, it’s pathetic.

  • I just found your blog, and I will be reading regularly.  Thank you for your frank assessment of the drivel that masquerades as news.  I am glad to see the liberal media show a little fear of Benedict XVI. He seems, to me anyway, to be focused on things above.

  • To think that according to these people in the MSM and the liberal intelligentsia he moral fabric,  ethos and soul of the USA has been reduced to the unfettered right to do what you like with certain organs of your body and the consequential unfettered right to destroy any human being that nature has decreed to be the inevitable consequences of using those organs.

Woe to you America!!! Woe to Western civilization!!. Woe to humanity!!.

Nature has a very nasty way of retaliating for misusing or abusing it.
