No SSPX reconciliation

It looks like the whole Lefebrvist reconciliation story was made up out of whole cloth by some journalists working out of the Vatican and then the British reporter, Richard Owens of the London Times, ran with it. What we’ve been hearing from informed sources at the Vatican is that Cardinal Dario Castrillon Hoyos of the Congregation for the Clergy—and the point man for discussions with the Society of St. Pius X—announced he wil celebrate a Tridentine Mass in May at St. Mary Major Basilica in Rome. Some journalist over there decided this meant reconciliation and that’s how we got here.

It is still unexplained why Cardinal Castrillon Hoyos is celebrating the Mass since it is highly unusual and will be the first one of the Tridentine rite celebrated by a cardinal or celebrated in a papal basilica in Rome since 1970. He is not known to have a great affinity for it and this is a highly visible act.
