Intimidate this

The Know Thy Neighbor web site, set up by gay activists to intimidate people who sign the petition to protect marriage by overturning imposition of gay marriage by unelected judges, has finally posted the complete list of names of signers. I am proud to see my name and that of my lovely wife listed there.

The activists are crying poor mouth and asking for donations because so many people are hitting the site. Probably from all the people looking to see their names listed. Can you imagine if all 120,000 people on the petition hit their web site? Can you imagine how expensive that bandwidth bill would be? I can’t imagine they wouldn’t mind if every single reader of this blog, hit their web site, searching page after page for friends, neighbors, familiar names, celebrities, and who knows how many others.

  • Wooooo let the persecution begin!  Are these guys serious?  They used to feed us to the lions… and this is the best they can do?

  • My husband and I are on there and at least 2 of our neighbors signed during our parish’s petition drive.  Can’t wait to see who else we know signed.

Our pastor signed but I didn’t turn in the sheet with his signature…just ran out of time…he’s registered in a different town.

I knew, though, that we had enough signatures by then.

    Sorry, Father!!!

  • I missed Mass the one weekend that signatures at my local parish. They had no on-going sign ups and they protested that they knew nothing of who else was organizing for signatures either in the parish or in the Worcester Diocese. I called the Baptist temple up the street from the church …no clue. I called the Assembly of God on the same street…no clue.

One person claimed they they signed on-line and then I found the Ray Flynn’s “Your Catholic Voice” was running an online petition for the Federal level.  I wonder how many people signed that thinking they were signing the Massachusetts petition.

Then I called the diocese and Bishop’s assistant told me that I should been able to put in touch with someone. I forwarded the .pdf petition to him and told him the parish was useless in this area.  Did they read the Bishop’s statement? I doubt it.

So, shamefully, my name cannot be found on the petition. But thankfully they petitiion yielded double the requirement.

It’s too late now but Tom could have signed the petition, brought it to his local town/city hall to have it verified, and then mailed it to the address on the petition itself.

  • From their web site:

NOTE: We are experiencing extremely high traffic. Access to the list of names will be limited while we work on increasing our capacity. Donations to help us cover these extra expenses are welcomed. If you can provide data mirroring, please contact Aaron.

Have a Merry and Blessed Christmas,

  • WHOO-HOO!  Spike the ball!

  • Dom,

How about a post about the phenominal success of the petition drive?  There’s the heartening story that we needed 65,825 signatures, and we got 123,356 registered voters to sign.

Or how about the angle that on the home page of the Know Thy Neighbor web site, there’s a photo of someone holding a “I Am Catholic I Did Not Sign”—- so they know who their primary opponents are, and we Catholics perhaps aren’t as apostate as we often think?

  • “we Catholics perhaps aren’t as apostate as we often think?”

I wish it didn’t but it does anger me that there were several people in our parish who did not want us gathering signatures.  Some of them are on the Parish Council and the school’s PTO.

  • I’m not from MA but I’d like to sign the petition. I think I’ll email them and ask them how I can get my name on their list. I think I’ll tell all my friends to do the same. I’d feel bad if we all didn’t do our best to make sure they have a complete list.

  • The North Shore guys running the site are supposedly very wealthy.  They need donations like the Catholic Church need more heterodox or homosexual priests. tongue laugh

  • Everyone ought to copy the names and addresses from their own area to a spreadsheet or text file.  These will come in handy for local politicking (and potlucking) for years to come!

  • I replied to the “Know Your Neighbor” email thanking them as I would love to send my neighbors a fruit basket.

Leominster was out in force! (54 pages) I’m very proud of my town!

Yes, this list could be used to help get rid our our rotten State Senator.

  • Is a fruit basket an appropriate gift to send folks who oppose homosexualism?  Or is it tongue-in-cheek symbolism?

  • “Yes, this list could be used to help get rid our our rotten State Senator.”

Don’t forget your State rep (if applicable)!

  • The knowthyneighbor folks have started a blog with a comments section.  Needless to say, the comments are dominated by “fraud this” and “theocrat that”.  It might be worth stopping over there to let them know how you feel about their list.

  • Not to be outdone, MassEquality tells us…

Your signature may have been stolen. Find out now!

Opponents of marriage equality have gone too far. In their efforts to collect signatures on a petition that would take away marriage equality, they hired an out-of-state firm that paid out-of-state signature collectors a dollar for each signature they collected. Over the past few months, hundreds of reports of fraud and deception conducted by these paid signature collectors have poured in from across the Commonwealth.

See if you are a victim. Just click below to search for your name on the anti-gay petition, and you will receive instructions about what to do next if your name appears. No one has the right to steal your signature or to trick you out of it.

Time is of the essence. Check here now.

Anyone could be a victim. Even if you don’t remember or are sure you did not sign a petition, please check to make sure your name is not listed among those who support a constitutional amendment barring marriage for gay and lesbian couples. One witness, a former signature-collector, observed paid signature-gatherers forging signatures!  She estimates that thousands of citizens were tricked into signing through the use of deceptive tactics.

We need your help to expose the full scale of this deception. Click here now to see if your signature was stolen.

We need your help in other important ways as well.

Spread the word. Forward this email to friends and family. We have a very short time-frame for conducting our review, so we need to spread the word quickly.

Volunteer. We need dozens of volunteers between December 22nd and January 10th to help us uncover fraud and search through signatures at the Secretary of State’soffice. Volunteers are needed days, evenings and weekends.

Donating even a few hours of your time can make a critical difference. Sign up by clicking here and we will send you more information. For more details, contact Jesse Sullivan at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or call 617-878-2352.

Thank you for taking this seriously. Nothing less than the integrity of our democracy in Massachusetts is at stake.

    Sincerely,

    Marc Solomon
    Political Director

  • OK – let me see if I understand:

Almost half, or more precisely 47%, of the people who signed the petition either a) did not sign the petition, or b) did not read the petition but signed it anyway, or c)did not understand the petition, but signed it anyway, or d) thought the petition was about selling liquor on Sundays, and signed it anyway.

Now that I think about it, Father did say something about being able to get ripped after mass.  Boy, those heterosexist theocrats are crafty!

  • This might not be significant to anybody outside the city of Boston, but under the “Another reason I moved from the South End to Roxbury” category:

    South End: 8 pages
    Roxbury: 18 pages!

Re: RC’s comment (first one) regarding clergy:

Out of the six priests in residence at Cathedral of the Holy Cross, I found only two who signed.

‘Course, it might be as Lynne mentioned…somebody ran out of time.

  • Initially 170,000 signatures were collected and 138,832 of those were certified by the various cities and towns in Massachusetts.  Of those, the Secretary of State’s Office disqualified 4,676 signatures on forms that were not exact copies or contained extraneous markings.  The office did not certify 535 forms because they had not been signed by at least three registrars of voters or election commissioners.  Another 10,265 signatures were not included due to a provision that says no more than one-fourth of the signatures required for certification can come from any one county.  Nine thousand five hundred seventy-one extra signatures were gathered in Middlesex county and 694 extra were gathered in Norfolk county.

Source: Christine Williams, The Pilot,  December 23, 2005, “Marriage petition results certified by Elections Division”, p. 4.

You’ll note that the entire city of Lawrence has ZERO names posted to the KnowThyNeighbor web site.

  • Ahem!!! Ah RC?????:coolsmirk:
If my name is not on the list, it is not my fault. I clearly put it there. I have not had time to check as the website was extremely slow when I was checking it out. It seemed to me that unless your name was Aaron Aardvark, it was going to take a long time to find your name via their website.

Sincerely Fr. Robert J. Carr—Not one of the 58, but one of the 120,000+

  • Why was Lawrence not included?  I actually signed in Lawrence at St. Patrick’s Church, and my name is on there, however I’m registered in Everett.  Oddly, my wife signed with me, and she’s not listed.

  • I checked it, Father Carr..you weren’t on it. (Neither was Howie Carr!) wink

As I said above, and as Lynne also noted, some people were omitted because of timing, etc. Also, they were really strict about qualifying signatures. It turned out to be lots easier to just collect ONE name per sheet, rather than rise disqualification.

Kelly <——-noting that Father Carr and Howie Carr are not related grin

  • Sorry, Fr. Carr, I can’t find you under Somerville or Boston.    Got any other addresses? <g>

Here’s a speculation: is there any chance you signed the form “Rev. Robert Carr”?  Somebody might take it as an excuse to challenge the name, since “Rev.” isn’t going to match the name on the voter lists.

Or: maybe somebody else’s mistake caused your sheet to be invalidated.  Supposedly one rejected name is enough to spoil the whole sheet.
