I’m absolutely sure … well, not really.

The attorney general of New Hampshire said four months ago that he was absolutely convinced that crimes were committed by bishops. It was “absolutely self-evident.” There was “no ambiguity.”

But… now he’s saying that he didn’t mean it. His statement was “a generic response with respect to what I thought was a matter of public safety” because the US bishops didn’t address their responsibility to protect children in the Dallas policy. Does he mean that he made the earlier statement, not because it was true, but as a pressure tactic? Grandstanding by a public official? I’m shocked, just shocked!
