More on San Francisco

WorldNetDaily is following up on the story of Most Holy Redeemer Parish in San Francisco and the “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.“ Most of it is information we’ve seen, although the statement by the archdiocesan spokesman adds one bit of information. It ends: “Fr. Meriwether is on leave from his duties.“

Meriwether is the pastor of the parish, but he’s also the archdiocesan chancellor. So what duties is he on leave from? Pastor? Chancellor? Both?

I wasn’t as excited by the first statement of the archdiocese, in which it announced the cancellation of the events at the parish, as others were. I noted that they didn’t mention any of the other parish activities, nor did it repudiate the actions of Meriwether or anyone else at the parish.

This is public relations damage control. A true attempt to stop the scandal to the faithful and assert Church teaching would take stronger and more public steps. This sounds like they’re doing just enough to take the heat off without having to do anything substantive that would annoy certain people.
