The picture of Dorian Gray-er

I got my driver’s license in the mail today. As I mentioned the other day, the clerk asked me if I wanted a new photo or if I just wanted to continue using my ten-year-old photo. Since the old photo wasn’t bad and I had little realistic hope of a new one being better, I told her to keep the old one.

So when I got my new license today, I pulled out my old license and handed it to Melanie. She said, “That’s a good photo of you.”

“Notice anything different?” I asked. When she couldn’t I pointed out that this was a 10-year-old photo.

“That could have been taken yesterday!”

Nice of her to say so, and probably fairly true. Of course, there is a bit more gray in my beard and you can’t see the thinning spot on the back of my head, but in general that’s pretty accurate.

Now that I think of it, though, I wonder if it means I look 10 years younger or if back in 1997 I looked 10 years older. Hmmm.

Oh, and if you think I’m going to post my driver’s license photo on the Internet you’re crazy.
