No shock: VOTF protests Instruction on gay seminarians

Recall Voice of the Faithful’s insistence, against evidence to the contrary, that they’re not a liberal organization, but that they simply don’t take sides in controversial issues over doctrine. (Of course, that ignores the fact that by “not taking sides” you are taking sides. If you’re not with the Church, you’re against her. Recall Christ’s promise to vomit out the lukewarm.)

Yet, this apparent “Swiss-like neutrality” is repeatedly violated when the Church teaches or preaches something VOTF doesn’t like. Last year, Archbishop Sean O’Malley’s stand against gay marriage was excoriated by VOTF’s leadership.

And now they are protesting the Vatican Instruction on admittance of homosexuals to seminary. I’m shocked! Shocked! (Ever notice that VOTF never strays from its neutrality in favor of Church teaching, but always in the liberal/heterodox direction?)

Yawn, VOTF’s protesting again

As Kelly Clark relates it, VOTF is planning to have a protest this weekend in several cities (oh joy, more use of the liturgy for fighting against the Church), including having people wear a green ribbon to express their displeasure. Yes, because lapel ribbons haven’t been completely overused to the point where nobody pays attention anymore.

And they will be protesting at the Cathedral in Boston, as usual. As Kelly points these guys don’t even know the difference between celibacy and chastity. I’ve said it before: their complain that it doesn’t solve clergy sex-abuse is irrelevant since that’s not its primary purpose. But they know that. This is about protecting a liberal shibboleth and sexual libertinism.

Incidentally, one of the copies of the announcement I was forwarded originated with a director of religious education outside Boston who sent it to every DRE in her region and the archdiocesan director of religious education. These are the people educating our children in the faith. (Or not educating them, as the case may be.)

Well c’mon, Dom, who is this religious ed director?

S/he’s abandoned any claim to privacy by forwarding that announcement non-anonymously; why shouldn’t you publish the name here?

Don’t I deserve to know if one day I get saddled with him/her?

Oh, by the way, a slight correction of your posting is in order.  You say, “These are the people educating our children in the faith. (Or not educating them, as the case may be.)”

These folk ARE educating children, there’s no doubt.  What you should have said is, “These are the people educating our children in the faith—or, more accurately, educating them out of the faith.”

The person who forwarded me the email is on the DRE’s distribution list and I don’t want to “burn” them.

Beside wearing ribbons, VOTF could do something drastic like sign a petition.
Rough stuff.

Well do I recall the panic that swept the first VOTF message board when the undeniable (by reasonable people that is) evidence of the very “gay” nature of the scandals first became evident.  It was evident from day one that these folks would not allow any sort of criticism of active homosexuals in the church.  These people constituted a “protected category” as far at the VOTFers and the Priests Council that loved them were concerned.

I see that nothing has changed.

So, should green ribbon wearers be denied Holy Communion like the Rainbow Sashers?
