Another wartime inauguration

The chattering heads on TV have been in full throat this week, castigating President Bush for allowing big companies to pay for the inauguration festivities—it would be better to burden taxpayers with the cost?—and clucking at the unseemliness of such parties during wartime—it didn’t seem to phase them when the Democrats were partying in Boston last July. Yet, there was another wartime president who didn’t allow the fact of war to prevent America from celebrating her unique gift of freedom and democracy, as Lane Core recounts.

But, of course, FDR is a liberal icon and George Bush is the bęte noir of today’s loony Left. That makes all the difference in the world.

Gee, that “let’s bring down the national economy” effort yesterday went down with rather a whimper than a bang, didn’t it?

What was it called?

Something real snappy like “don’t spend any money at all on Inuguration Day so we can screw up the economy and thereby gain attention for ourselves and our own indistibutable facts those !)@#&(@^  rednecks insist on calling `opinions’.”

I got an email all about it—from one o’ my readers, no less—the day before yesterday.

Needless to say, I abandoned my normal cheapskate persona and SPENT MONEY! grin

Kelly,

I had to do something, anything, to spend money for such a good cause, so I took the family out for lunch at McDonald’s, then hurried home to watch the Inaugural Parade!

I know of at least one St. Blog’s “parishioner” who was also advocating not spending one dime, though I won’t name names. wink
