My co-worker who’s in Rome this week sent me a message today that he went out to Chinese food for supper. Chinese food? In Rome? The home of the world’s greatest cuisine?
Yeah. He said he’s tired of pasta.
He’s been in Rome for half a week so far! How can he be tired of pasta already? And there’s a whole universe of Italian food beyond pasta.
Such an opportunity, wasted! Oh, my breaking heart.
Actually that bit of conventional wisdom is in dispute. More and more historians claim that there is evidence Italians were making noodles from wheat before Polo was even born.
Goodness. The older I get, the more obsolete my grade school education becomes. First Pluto is no longer a planet, then panda bears get classified as real bears (instead of relatives of the raccoon) and now this? It just shows ta go ya, I guess.

How about a little pasta carbonara?

The irony is that pasta is Chinese food. Credit Marco Polo for adding it to Italian menus.

Panda bears are classified as real bears now? When did this happen?
