Catholic YouTube

Catholic YouTube

Here’s another niche YouTube clone, this one a a Catholic alternative called LoveToBeCatholic.com. A previous entry was the Christian, but not necessarily Catholic, GodTube.

There seems to be a variety of videos up, ranging from talking heads to music videos to captures off the TV. And they all seem to be loaded by the one user, who I presume is the site’s owner seeding the library. Only time will tell if success will drive a wider variety of videos, including homemade videos, to the site.

I’ll be curious to see how this develops and how stringent their control over the content will be. I presume they’ll take down any spam or obscene material, but what about material that expresses opinions that dissent from the teachings of the Church? On other end of the spectrum, what about videos like the recent one that showed Archbishop Niederauer giving Communion to some blaspheming gay activists? It will be very interesting to see how they walk that line.

  • Thanks for the posting about our web site http://www.lovetobecatholic.com.  I appreciate it.

We launched this web site as a tool of Catholic evangelization. So unlike YouTube and GodTube, we will edit content.  We have to do so. After all, or mission is to evangelize the Faith not disgrace or criticize the Church.  Also, we are non-profit. YouTube is owned by Google and I believe GodTube is for profit as well.

The beta web site just went live a few days ago, so most videos are ones that I uploaded. We did this so folks have something to test drive and that it has value to earlier adopters. I am happy to say that users are starting to populate the web site with new content. Also, as people provide feedback, we’ll make changes and augment the web site.

Thank you again for highlighting our web site. I am happy to speak with anyone who wishes more information.  I may be reached at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).  Finally, if I may do so, I request prayers for our mission.

    Blessings,
