Business as usual in San Francisco

I don’t mind saying “I told you so.” When there was an uproar over Most Holy Redeemer parish in San Francisco allowing the anti-Catholic homosexual group, the Sister of Perpetual Indulgence, to use its hall for sexually explicit events, the archdiocese claimed that it was taking swift action and that Fr. Stephen Meriwether was “on leave from his duties.”

I registered my skepticism, noting that Meriwether is the chancellor of the archdiocese after all, and as long as he remains in office and as long as his many heterodox views and actions were not repudiated, this was all just a show. As I said at the time:

This is public relations damage control. A true attempt to stop the scandal to the faithful and assert Church teaching would take stronger and more public steps. This sounds like they’re doing just enough to take the heat off without having to do anything substantive that would annoy certain people.

Now, thanks to Jeff Miller, we see that this was indeed just a show designed to placate those of us who complained.

The pastor Fr. Meriwether is reportedly on leave from his duties after so many complaints to the Archdiocese for this parish allowing the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence holding bingo games with sex toy prizes in the parish hall. Unfortunately it appears the Archdiocese is now allowing Fr. Meriwether to return to his parish. This Sunday they are holding a pancake breakfast in honor of his return. So now that the media attention has gone away from the last fiasco it appears that everything is back to what can be called normal there. People thought that the infamous St. Joan parish with it’s rainbow flag was scandalous, but this parishes web site puts them into the bush leagues.
