Links fixed
I’ve finally fixed the links to some of the photo galleries that have been down since last December (!) when I moved servers. I didn’t have enough room on my new server for all of it, but I now have a backup server that I’m using just to serve certain files and that’s where they’re going.
These are the galleries that have been fixed:
The old entries in the photoblog have also been fixed.(0) Comments (viewed 155 times) • (0) Trackbacks • Permalink

Apple picking 2005
On Sept. 25, we went apple picking at Marino Lookoout Farm. It was quite an operation. The farm is huge and there trams that come by the main barn every few minutes to pick up customers and ferry them out to all the vineyards. There’s a petting zoo, a hay-bale maze, and of course, apples… and peaches and pears and a bunch of other pick-your-own fruit, as well as a store that sells very good and authentic Italian gelato.
Kids had a great time and the adults had a little bit of fun too, although it was super-crowded. The fruit was about as much as you’d pay at the supermarket (no bargain there), but part of the point is to be outdoors on a crisp fall day, picking fruit that was ripened on the vine.

The Wedding of Domenic and Melanie
A very large photo gallery of wedding photos, both official and family and friends. A few are out of order because the date stamps on the photos are wrong. We’ll just have to deal with it.
The photos begin at the start of the ceremony and end with the end of the reception. There will be other photo galleries as well, including pre- and post-wedding parties and the honeymoon.
Is 553 photos too much for an online photo gallery? Probably. But if you want to see them (and we know that the mothers of the bride and groom do), they’re all here for you. And don’t worry that we’ll be offended if you just skim them. I know that like baby pictures, wedding pictures are not as compelling if they’re not yours. Anyway, Enjoy!

Visiting the Friendship
Every year, Salem has a maritime heritage weekend, which includes an open house and free tours of our very own tall ship, Friendship, a reproduction of an early 18th-century, three-masted merchant vessel of the type that used to sail out of the port and travel around the world to the East Indies.
So this year, Melanie, her sister Theresa, and I went aboard for a little tour. I love that ship. It’s one of my favorite parts of Salem. I’m hoping some day that they provide actual sailing trips to the public. That would be too awesome.

Bachelor Party
Photos from the bachelor party. We were supposed to go deep-sea fishing, but the weather in the morning was too bad to go. Of course, Murphy’s Law being what it is, as soon as we cancelled and made plans to do something else, the sky cleared and it was a perfect day.
So instead, we went to see “Fantastic Four,“ had great seafood lunch at Woodman’s Grill, played laser tag and got our heads handed to us by a bunch of 10-year-olds, had dinner at Bertucci’s, and then went back to Paul’s house for cigars and Scotch. It was a great time.

Fourth of July concert 2005, Salem, Mass.
Once more, we ventured out to Salem’s big Fourth of July concert and fireworks display. It’s a great, family-friendly event that takes place on the harbor and includes a concert by a big orchestra and ends with a wonderful fireworks display.

Fourth of July in Sebago, Maine
A few quick shots of me and Melanie at a roadside diner in Sebago, Maine, on Fourth of July weekend, 2005. By the way, the building behind Melanie in that photo is the local Catholic mission chapel that’s only open in the summer to provide Mass for the vacationers in the Sebago Lake area.

Melanie’s wedding shower
We had Melanie’s wedding shower on Saturday. It was fun and fairly low pressure, especially since it wasn’t a surprise. We determined that there was no way to keep it a surprise and bring her mother, sister, and friends into town without her knowing. Plus it was just easier to plan if we all knew what was going on.
Anyway, we gathered at what will be our new apartment together, which is where Melanie has been living for the past five years. Her roommates have already moved out so now we’re making it our own. We were given some very nice gifts that will help us establish our new household.
On Friday, I had to run up to Home Depot to pick up an air conditioner for the apartment because it was going to be in the high 90s this past weekend. I installed the huge thing in the window (not realizing that there was a thornbush underneath it that I was going to have to stand in while installing). But Saturday morning, Melanie called me to say that the GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) in the plug kept tripping. Yeesh. Of all days… I ran back to Home Depot to get a long extension cord, hooked it up to another outlet, and thank God, it worked. Whew! Of course last night it started tripping even while the ac was off, so I have to figure out what’s going on.

Strawberry Picking at Brooksby Farm 2005
I went strawberry picking with my sister Evy Campbell; her three kids, Kateri, Chiara, and Josh (who’s still in a stroller); two of my brother John’s kids, Domenic and Catherine, who were visiting Evy; and Melanie, her mom, and her sister Theresa who are in town for Melanie’s wedding shower this weekend.
We went to Brooksby Farm in Peabody, Mass., which is owned by the town and grows all kinds of fruits and vegetables and flowering plants for sale to the public. In the fall there’s apple picking and they have fresh fruit and savory pies at the store as well as honey from the farm. It’s a great place.
The strawberries were awesome and it was a beautiful day for it. I’m glad I could take my lunch break to go. Enjoy the pictures.

Blizzard of January 05
It is being called one of the top 5 storms of the past century. Here in Danvers we got about 24 to 30 inches of snow, although the wind was blowing so hard, it was difficult to measure. The snow was blown into 5 and 6-foot snow drifts by 30-40 mph winds. To top it off the temperate was below 10 degrees the whole time. Check it all out in this gallery.

Visit to Dallas and Austin
At the beginning of January 2005, I flew down to Texas to meet up with Melanie who was already down there for the holidays. She had arrived before Christmas and wouldn’t be coming back until mid-January, so I flew down on December 31 and stayed until January 7.
Blogs describing my trip are here: December 31, January 3, January 4, January 6, January 7, and January 8.
All in all it was a blast. I’m a little surprised at how few pictures I took, but I think it’s a measure of how much fun I was having. When I’m having fun, I sometimes forget to pull out the camera, and now I wish I had more often.
