St. Edmund’s Enders Island
I spent the weekend of May 14-16, 2004, at St. Edmund’s Enders Island retreat center at planning meetings for the 4th annual Proud2bCatholic Music Festival, being held this August in Methuen, Mass. The concert is organized and led by my brother-in-law Peter Campbell and is completely volunteer run.
There were about 30 of us on the weekend, which started in the fog on Friday night, where we enjoyed a game of “Stump the chump.” That’s where I stand in front of the group and they get to ask me questions about the faith, current events, Church history, etc. Lots of fun. On Saturday morning, we went to Mass, and then held planning meetings, outdoors by the ocean. The afternoon was free so Melanie and I and Paul and Rose went into the town of Mystic where we stopped for a snack of oysters and beer, then went window shopping and then sat on the boardwalk, basking in the sun.
We met the others for dinner at Ground Round, then back at the retreat center, Paul and I enjoyed some cigars out on the gazebo overlooking the ocean. That night was a special prayer time and then some stargazing. Sunday morning was Mass, of course, a final meeting, and then a reluctant drive home. It was so beautiful and relaxing and fun that I didn’t want the weekend to end, especially since I knew that work was waiting for me Monday morning. All in all it was a great time. I hope you enjoy the pictures.
