April Fool’s Day Flood

On April 1, 2004, the Boston area got incredible soaking rains. In 24 hours we had more than 6 inches of rain, maybe even more. And just as happens at least once per year it seems, the street in front of my house, Canal Street, a major thoroughfare in Salem, was flooded to the point of closure. It doesn’t seem like any city officials have any idea of how to prevent this and I can’t understand how the local businesses the get flooded every time can survive this, having to make insurance claims every year.

It’s also strange that April Fool’s Day seems to get more than it’s share of bad weather. I remember we had the great April Fool’s Day blizzard in 1997, when we got more than 2 feet of snow! Enough jokes!
