It's been some time since my last blog post. I've spent the last few weeks working on a project I've wanted to accomplish for a while, which is to move this website from the old content management system, Expression Engine, to WordPress. The reasons for the move are varied, but among them are the fact that I feel like EE has moved away from being a blogging engine to something more multipurpose and aimed at larger commercial sites, as well as the fact that all the websites I build for work are on WordPress so I should leverage those skills here.
Anyway, it's an all new Bettnet, even if most of the externals look pretty much the same. Moving more than 9,000 blog entries and 40,000 comments spanning 10 years was no easy feat and I hate to say that some stuff has been lost in the move. But I'd say that 90% of the entries are intact, which is fine. I'm sure there will be hiccups and glitches from time to time, but in general everything seems to be working well.
If you subscribe to the RSS, you'll need to subscribe again to the new feed. You can also subscribe to entries via email.
I can't say I'll be blogging a lot more than I used to, but I hope to become more regular about it.
It’s terrific, Dom!
That’s some incredible feat!
9,000 articles with 40,000 comments?
How large was the SQL dump?
There was 25 separate XML files between 1 and 4MB each. I think if I did a straight dump of the SQL it would have been about 50MB. But then there was the dozens of megabytes of image files and other stuff I had to move from my old webhost.
